Invest Time In Finding The Right Keywords

Keyword research is extremely important in SEO. Think about it, before you start writing content, tags, link building, etc., you must find and use the right keywords for your website and search engine marketing campaigns.

Some search engine optimization firms only use keyword research basics, but there's much more than picking keywords from the Google keyword research tool (which is primarly used for Google Pay Per Click campaigns).

Consider:

  • Compile a list of possible keywords your customer would enter into search engines when they are looking for your products and services.
  • Check your Google Analtyics or other website statistical software to find how how people are finding you now.
  • Research your competition. What keywords are they targeting?
  • Check to see who's ranked high in search engines. What other keywords are they using?
  • Check out Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery as they offer more insight and tools to helping you find the best possible keywords.

If you're currently using a search engine optimization firm and they haven't shared keyword research with you, then you're using the wrong firm.

When it comes to keyword research, SEO firms should be talking about competive keyword analysis; keyword effectiveness index; number of web pages competing for a keyword, and what are you chances of earning a piece of the keyword pie, etc.
